This article deals with recreational activities in accordance with Austrian psychiatrist Viktor Frankl's
point of view. In the article, first of all, Frankl's psychology school was emphasized and in particular,
comments and evaluations were made about recreational activities in the axis of his school. The article
is based on the primary source works of Frankl, but it also includes the views of Adler, Tolstoy and
Kafka who are influential in the author's world of thought. In this article, by using content analysis
technique of qualitative research methods; the works written by Frankl were subjected to both detailed
reading and professional reading with “recreational activities” glasses. In other words, theoretical
discussion method was used on literature review. In the article, four main findings have been reached.
According to the findings, Frankl explained recreational activities as mechanism / activity /
phenomenon: (1) Regulatory mechanism of the feeling of existential gap (2) Activity meeting the
individual's search for meaning (3) Leisure activity directed to the center (4) Intention-related
phenomenon. This paper, which is an exploratory study, presents the narrative and evaluations that aim
to contribute to the future studies on the basis of different psychology schools.
