INTRODUCTION: Professor Dilek Aslan’s book, Halk Sağlığı Bakış Açısıyla Yaşlılık (A Public Health Perspective on Aging), offers a thorough analysis of aging and its implications for public health. Aslan highlights the urgent need to address aging not as a distant issue but as an immediate challenge affecting public health strategies. METHODS: The critique involved a detailed review of Aslan’s exploration of demographic trends, health needs, and societal attitudes towards aging. This was supplemented by an expanded analysis using current global data and research on issues such as pandemics, antimicrobial resistance, and chronic diseases affecting the elderly. RESULTS: Aslan’s book presents a comprehensive view of aging, covering demographic shifts and health determinants. The expanded analysis shows that the elderly population is rapidly increasing worldwide, bringing significant public health challenges. Notable issues include heightened risks from infectious diseases, rising antimicrobial resistance, chronic disease management, and healthcare access disparities. Regional data, such as Türkiye’s growing elderly population, draws attention to the need for tailored interventions. DISCUSSION: Aslan’s scholarly work is critical in understanding aging from a public health perspective. The expanded analysis highlights additional global challenges, including the impacts of pandemics and economic instability on elderly health. Addressing these issues requires innovative and compassionate strategies, such as improved healthcare access and economic support. CONCLUSION: Halk Sağlığı Bakış Açısıyla Yaşlılık (A Public Health Perspective on Aging) is a crucial resource that deepens the understanding of aging’s impact on public health. The expanded analysis confirms the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to tackle global challenges faced by the elderly, advocating for resilient and inclusive public health solutions.
