The features of smartphones and the increase in usage rates among people have also changed the perceptions about these devices. Today, these devices are used by some users at addiction level. The aim of this study is to examine the opinions of university students about smartphone addiction. The study was carried out according to qualitative techniques. The study is designed as a case study pattern. In this context, data were collected through forms of semi-structured interview, observation and metaphoric perception. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with seven participants through the semi-structured interview form. Metaphoric perception data for smartphones were collected from 68 participants in the metaphorical perception dimension of the study. Participants at all stages of the study took part in the study according to the principle of volunteering. After all the data obtained were transferred to digital media, they were investigation via content analysis. Data in the metaphoric perception dimension were included in the study as percentage and frequency. Among the findings of his study, some participants use these devices in a controlled manner. On the other hand, some participants use of smartphones and internet with high addiction. This addiction negatively affects their course focusing and academic achievement.
